OpenText Buys HP Exstream

In HP’s recent Q2 earnings conference call, President and CEO Dion Weisler commented on “the work we are doing around marketing to stimulate printing demand. We are shifting our marketing efforts from marketing printers to marketing printing.”

On June 2, HP announced new software that simplifies printing from mobile devices on a corporate network, and new IT management analytics tools to understand and optimize printer fleets for better performance. HP wasn’t done making news in June with this announcement though — on June 20 OpenText would acquire the Customer Communications Management (CCM) assets from HP Inc., including HP Exstream, HP Output Management, HP TeleForm and HP LiquidOffice for customer communications management, process automation and document delivery solutions.

This followed a May acquisition by OpenText of HP TeamSite, HP MediaBin, HP Qfiniti, HP Explore, HP Aurasma, and HP Optimost.

To round out the month, on June 21 HP Inc. held a webcast to announce the update of its printing sales model, which included the announcement of a reduction in supplies inventory, causing the firm’s stock to fluctuate wildly and spurring much discussion about the company’s struggling printing business.
